United States of America
$10 Gold certificate, 1922
(also called Hillegas note)
7.25 L x 3 H inches
Paper
First issued in 1922, these were the first-ever $10 gold certificates. They’re easily recognizable by their large-note size and portrait of Michael Hillegas, the first treasurer of the United States. The back of the note displays the Great Seal of the United States printed in vibrant gold ink—just in case anyone doubted the note was redeemable in gold. Unfortunately they were affected by the 1933 gold recall, when gold coins and paper currency redeemable in gold were seized by the government and destroyed.
Good condition.
No rips or tears.
