Created using a Tonalist-style color palette, this late American Impressionist painting of a small town, complete with church and rolling hills shows a storm rolling in during what appears to be the height of Spring. The trees are in full bloom but gray has been added to the entire palette muting the colors and creating a somber effect. Based on the size of the canvas the painting was most probably painted plein-air sitting at the top of a hill.
