William Eric (Indursky) [alter ego, Jon X NY (pronounced Jonny X)] (b.1969)

William Eric (Indursky) [alter ego, Jon X NY (pronounced Jonny X)] [b.1969] was raised in suburban New Jersey where he would make yearly holy pilgrimages with his mother to the fine and modern museums of art in New York City. Perhaps it was missing school for the event or even remembering a favorite childhood book, From the mixed-up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg, a story of New Jersey children who ran away to hide and live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, that made him long to be an artist.

Being of a practical sort, William chose to pursue college degrees in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, OH and only minor in Fine Art, ceramics. Moving back to New York, William worked in fashion, architecture, home decor, graphic design and interactive design while continually producing art.

In New York, he studied under famed portrait artist Nelson Shanks at the Art Students’ League of New York, NY, spent two and a half years studying with the original drawing teacher of the Florence Academy, Andrea J. Smith at the Harlem Studio (now defunct) and worked alongside friend and top portrait artist Brandon Soloff.

Struggling to bring together his equal loves of Classical painting and Contemporary art, William produced Classical work under William Eric (Indursky) and Pop Art under his alter ego Jon X NY. At the tender age of 50 the artist finally connected his two disparate worlds, producing work that has Classical roots with a decidedly modern, Pop Conceptual and Street Art approach.

William produces art that explore themes of innocence, beauty, the classic form and what it means to live today through painting and sculpture, often mixing both media.

William’s paintings are in many private collections and galleries nationwide. He is a member of the Salmagundi Club, New York, NY, Miniature Arts Society of New Jersey, Colts Neck, NJ, Cider Painters of America, Dallas, PA, American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), New York, NY and several others.

For the past 25 years, William Eric lives and works from a small studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The Metropolitan Museum of Art remains to this day his favorite museum.
