DESCRIPTION:
Images of sled riding were popular beginning in the 1850s in America.  Artists like Currier and Ives shot to fame creating prints with this theme that endure even to this day. The long ride, ca.1880 is by an unknown artist, possibly Wesley A W Johnson (?-?) of Columbus, OH a painter. The image depicts a working class version of the popular theme with the horse attached with a field plow apparatus than the horse and buggy version made popular by Currier and Ives.
