CONDITION:
Excellent original unrestored condition. In original period Arts and Crafts frame with original patina.

DESCRIPTION:
Likely a stage set design for a play or opera, this stylized drawing of Orientalist figures in a doorway, ca.1925 are typical of American theater design of the turn-of-the-century.  The bright glow around the figures on the floor also reinforces the idea that this delightful colored oil sketch is a theater study.  There was a Broadway show in 1925 called Arabesque which this might connect with designed by Cleon Throckmorton [1897-1965] a painter, scenic designer and architect.  The painting has close stylistic characteristics to those done by Erte.
