DESCRIPTION:
Jan Evert Morel II [1835-1905] was a Netherland genre painter who was the son and student of a well known Amsterdam marine painter Casparus Johannes Morel [1798-1861]. Morel II specialized in woodland scenes that often included small gestural figures. The work was part of a larger Romantic movement in art which idealized landscapes and ruins. Figures in a landscape, ca.1880s is a typical example of the artist’s complete oeuvre.
