DESCRIPTION:
Russian-born Henry R Rittenberg (1879-1969) studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the Bavarian Academy in Munich and the Shinnecock Summer School under William Merritt Chase (1849-1916). He was a member of the National Academy of Design, New York, NY (1927) and the Salmagundi Club, New York, NY (1910-1969). Rittenberg is known for his paintings of idealized beautiful women in interiors. This study appears to be an allegory of mother nature.
