Frame is a 1870s American aesthetic movement frame.

CONDITION:
Excellent condition, no repairs, no restoration.  Frame has a few age-appropriate chips and original patina.

DESCRIPTION:
From a wealthy family, Candee was under no pressure to sell his works.  Even today, his works are largely owned by his niece and only a few have been sold in the general art market.  This painting shows a peasant girl in the Italian alps, ca.1870.  Candee studied in Italy and traveled the countryside extensively in the 1870s.
