DESCRIPTION:
From a wealthy family, Candee was under no pressure to sell his works.  Even today, his works are largely owned by his niece and only a few have been sold in the general art market.  This painting shows a peasant girl in the Italian alps, ca.1884.  Candee studied in Italy and traveled the countryside extensively in the 1870s.
