BIOGRAPHY

Augusto Carman is an Buenos Aires, Argentina-born painter of landscape with strong color and simple shapes.

There is no doubt that Carman was born to Diego Nicolas Carman Narvaja [1835-1909] and Estela Castro Ramirez [1860- ]. But, what is unclear are the exact day of his birth and his death year. His birth is listed in some sorces as December 28, 1881 and in others as May 29, 1881. His death date is listed in some resources as 1953 and in others as October 18, 1963.

Carman studied at the Fine Arts Association, Buenos Aires under Fernando Fader [1882-1935]. His work retains many of the traits of his teacher, Fader, including his use of bright impressionistic color. Carman trained additionally in Paris at the Academie Humbert under Jacques Fernand Humbert [1842-1934].

The artist’s work has been exhibited at the Salon Nacional de Pintura (Buenos Aires) in 1911 and is in the collections of the Buenos Aires Latin American Art Museum, the Mitre Museo (Buenos Aires), and the Gauchesco and Ricardo Guiraldes Museum (Buenos Aires).
