Marshland Shanty, ca.1920
Oil on canvas
24 x 30 inches
Signed at lower right (illegibly).
Hand carved frame.
A gray-blue boat house shanty sits tucked in a marshy green landscape on the edge of a lake inlet. Three kayaks or boats are beached on the dock. A church can be seen in the far distance. The shanty is reflected in the water making it the focus of the composition.
The painting is done in a very brushy style with many vibrant colors which are slightly muted by the white of the canvas peeking through.
